Terms of service

Last updated 18 July 2026 · Close Reach

Draft. This has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer.

What this is

Close Reach helps sailors near each other ask for and offer help. It is an introduction, not a service: what happens after two people connect is between them.

By using the app you agree to these terms. If you do not, do not use it.

Your account

You need a working phone number, and you must be at least 16. One account per person. Keep your phone secure, because anyone who can receive your SMS can sign in as you.

What you agree not to do

Help given and received

We do not check anyone’s competence, qualifications, insurance or identity. Ratings and karma are what other sailors said, not a warranty from us.

Work on a boat can go wrong and the sea is dangerous. Whatever you agree to do or accept, you do at your own risk and on your own judgement. Close Reach is not a party to it.

Payment

The app is free to use. If you agree a price for parts, work or anything else, that is between you and the other person: we do not take payment, hold money, or arbitrate a dispute about it.

Content you post

What you write stays yours. You give us permission to show it in the app to the people it is meant for, which is the only thing we do with it.

We can remove content or an account that breaks these terms, and will say why unless doing so would put someone at risk.

Ending it

You can delete your account at any time, in the app, and it is deleted rather than hidden. We can close an account that breaks these terms.

Liability

The app is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from using it, from anything another sailor does or fails to do, or from the app being unavailable.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.
